Spreading the love of soccer to a Maasai village in Tanzania

A Second Kicks volunteer hand-delivered a large shipment of soccer equipment to a school in the Maasai village in northern Tanzania.

This opportunity came about as our volunteers were spending time teaching at the local Losirwa Primary School. They kindly agreed to take a shipment along with them. With supplies collected and sorted locally in Toronto, Canada, we delivered enough soccer shirts to equip 8 teams and added 8 balls.

A fun fact about the Maasai people is that they are considered one of the tallest people in the world, with an average height of 6 ft 3 inches. Many Maasai tribes throughout Tanzania and Kenya welcome visits to their villages to experience their unique culture, traditions, and lifestyle.

Our hope is to inspire these children to form a league and continue building important life skills. The volunteer added, “I’ve never seen children so happy. It was a very special moment for them and us! Here are some photos! “
