Supporting Soccer in Cameroon with Open Field
Dating back to November of 2019, Second Kids has been collaborating with Open Field in support of their mission to improve the lives and futures of youth in Cameroon through sport. After 12 months of hard work, we are very proud to announce that Second Kicks has helped Open field reach their inspiring goal of supporting nearly 1,000 youth across 3 cities with soccer gear! Second Kicks’ six box donation, generously provided by North Toronto Soccer Club, contributed to a greater shipment of over 1,000 jerseys, shorts and socks and hundreds of soccer balls now in use across Cameroon.
Founded in 2010, Open Field follows a ‘Sport for Good’ or ‘Sport for Development’ approach and uses the sport of football as a platform to provide youth with transformative experiences and equip them with transferable life skills. Open Field partners with local community groups to integrate their Sport for Good initiatives and achieve common goals in areas including: health promotion, education, leadership development and gender equity. Since 2010, Open Field has worked in 16 neighborhoods across 3 cities in Cameroon and has helped to equip over 1,000 youth with the skills and confidence to be active leaders within their communities!
The equipment donated by Second Kicks has since been circulated by Open Field is already in use by countless youth in soccer leagues throughout the country. The gear is also given out after competitions to youth who not only exhibit strong soccer skills but demonstrate a commitment to leadership and fair play. We are very proud to have been able to support such an inspiring mission and organization in Open Field.
Second Kicks would like to sincerely thank Justin, Timofei and the entire Open Field team for their hard work throughout the past 12 months. We wish you the very best in 2021 and look forward to collaborating again in the future. We would also like to recognize North Toronto Soccer Club and all of our incredible donors who help to make donations like these possible!
